Kaffe Fassett's Timeless Themes

$40.00

Timeless Themes explores the bold, beautiful patterns Kaffe and the Kaffe Fassett Collective have made famous – whether stripes, circles, geometrics, and botanicals or floral sprays, spots, and retro zigzags.  Each chapter is a very personal look at the sources of his inspiration, the beginnings of his most classic patterns, and how he continues to reinvent.  The book takes readers on a flashback journey to see how Kaffe originated certain fabric patterns and it is also a backstage pass to more than fifty years of Kaffe’s photos and travel mementos.  Filled with fantastic new quilt designs, this insider’s guide will make you feel as if you were really there with Kaffe as he traveled and designed in London and globetrotted around the world.

An exciting addition to any quilter’s library, Timeless Themes blends the best elements of Kaffe’s life and inspiration, resulting in a fresh look at the designer at work—a must-have for readers everywhere.  As usual, this book includes a range of quilts for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, and features an eclectic mix of patterns and colors ranging from Philip Jacobs’ eye-catching bold floral prints to Brandon Mably’s smaller-scale quirky patterns. Flat shots and a practical know-how section and glossary back up the fully illustrated, step-by-step instructions for each quilt, plus templates for each quilt.  A practical know-how section covers all the information needed by less experienced quilters.

Kaffe Fassett has led an extraordinary life and is a world-renowned textile artist. Born in 1937, he spent much of his youth in Big Sur, California, where his parents bought a cabin from Orson Welles and transformed it into the world-famous Nepenthe restaurant, a gathering place for artists and bohemians. After attending a boarding school run by the disciples of Krishnamurti, an Indian guru, he studied painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, then traveled to England, where he made his home. After an inspiring trip to Inverness, Scotland, Fassett began designing knitwear for Bill Gibb, and then the Missonis, Vogue magazine, and private clients like Lauren Bacall and Barbra Streisand, and, in the process, revolutionized the handknitting world with his explosive use of color. Further explorations led him to needlepoint, mosaics, rugmaking, tapestries, yarn and fabric design, costume and set design, and quilting. Fassett continues to produce new work and travels worldwide to teach and lecture and has recently collaborated with Coach New York. Please visit our profile on Kaffe to learn more!
