Antique Suzanies from Uzbekistan

Antique Suzanies from Uzbekistan. All one of a kind, rare and highly collectable. 

The Suzanies (translated from the word for needle) were given to the daughter, as a dowry, from the mother and the village for the marriage bed and to decorate their tent.

Being from a nomadic background the Suzanies are embroidered with the sun & the moon (large circles), flowers, vines and the popular pomegranate. Often a portion was left unfinished to allow any trapped spirits to escape. 

The Suzani has not been made as a traditional gift since the late 1970's unfortunately, and we are proud to carry the few pieces we do have.
